Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Club Esteem Welcomes Nick Dobbs to Lead Grooming and Life Skills Workshops for Young Men
Melbourne, FL – [Date] – This summer, Club Esteem had the privilege of welcoming Nick Dobbs, a seasoned barber and mentor, to lead a series of Grooming and Life Skills workshops for boys aged 12-18. Nick, originally from Western New York, has made Florida his home for the past decade, where he lives with his wife and 12-year-old son, who occasionally assists him during the workshops. With 22 years of barbering experience, Nick brings a wealth of expertise to his role as an educator, making a significant impact on the young men he mentors.
Keeping It Handsome
Nick’s passion for grooming began at an early age, inspired by his father who taught him the basics of cutting hair and tying a tie. As a child, Nick was drawn to the style and sophistication of well-dressed men, including his father and the members of Boyz II Men. He started cutting his own hair in middle school and continued honing his skills through college, eventually turning his passion into a full-fledged career.
Nick views barbering as more than just a trade; he sees it as an art form that can transform a person’s appearance and boost their confidence. “When you look better, you feel better,” Nick explains. His commitment to making people feel their best extends beyond the barber chair, as he offers mobile barbering services to those in need, including residents of rehab centers, assisted living facilities, and group homes.
At Club Esteem, Nick led workshops under the banner “Keeping It Handsome,” where he covered essential topics such as etiquette, hygiene, and the art of tying a tie. One particularly memorable activity involved students practicing straight razor shaving using plastic razors, balloons, and shaving cream. The boys carefully “shaved” balloon beards, learning precision and technique in a fun and interactive way.
Building Character and Community
Beyond grooming, Nick’s workshops placed a strong emphasis on the importance of character. “Grooming and dressing well are important for confidence, but that doesn’t constitute who you are,” he says. “What matters is your character.” The name of Nick’s barber shop, Nspired Cuts, reflects his belief in leaving a positive impact on others and being a source of inspiration.
Nick also invited some of his clients to share their experiences with the youth at Club Esteem. Mr. K, an engineer at L3 Harris, spoke to the students about careers in technology and led hands-on engineering activities, such as building circuits. Police officer Clyde Hilliard and his father, both long-time clients, introduced themselves to the young adults, fostering a sense of trust and community. Nick believes it is crucial for young Black men to build rapport with law enforcement in a safe and comfortable environment.
In addition to his work as a barber, Nick has a long history of working with youth as an ordained minister. He sees Club Esteem as a vital resource for young people, offering them opportunities to grow, learn, and connect with valuable resources and relationships. Nick expresses that he feels “honored and humbled” to be part of the Club Esteem community and to share his expertise with the next generation.
